Cores and memory are rounded by the browser on purpose, and the graphics name comes from a driver string that some browsers hide. Treat them as a rough guide.

What this page shows

Everything on this page is read directly from your browser as soon as it opens. There is nothing to press. The list covers the details people most often need to know about the device in front of them: which browser and system it runs, how big and sharp the screen is, what graphics chip it has, how many processor cores and how much memory it reports, whether it has a touch screen, and — where the browser allows — the battery and network.

It is useful in three situations. Support staff often ask for exactly these details, and the Copy everything button gives you all of them in one go. When a website misbehaves only on your device, the list helps you see what is unusual about it. And when you are buying a second-hand device, it gives you a first look at whether the specifications roughly match what the seller claims.

Screen resolution, window size and pixel density

These three numbers are easy to confuse.

Screen resolution is the size of the screen in the units web pages use. Window size is how much of it the browser window currently occupies, so it changes when you resize the window or rotate a phone. Pixel density says how many physical pixels make up each of those units. On a laptop with a sharp screen it is often 1.5 or 2; on a phone it can be 3.

Multiply the screen resolution by the pixel density to get the number of physical pixels. A screen reported as 1440 × 900 with a density of 2, for example, has a 2880 × 1800 panel. The browser uses the larger number to draw text and images sharply, but lays out pages at the smaller one.

Colour depth is usually 24 or 30 bits. Most screens show 24; screens and systems set up for wide colour or HDR may report more.

Why some values are marked as approximate

Browsers know that a precise list of hardware details can be used to recognise a visitor without cookies. To make that harder, they blur some of the answers:

  • Operating system. Browsers report a simplified version. Windows 10 and 11 look the same, and recent Mac versions report an older number.
  • Processor cores. Some browsers report the real number of logical cores; others round it or report a fixed value.
  • Memory. The value is rounded down and capped, so a machine with a lot of memory can show less than it has.
  • Graphics. The name comes from the graphics driver through WebGL. Some browsers return the exact chip, others a generic name, and some hide it completely.
  • Network. Where it is available, the type is an estimate of how fast the connection behaves — it may say 4g on a fast home Wi-Fi network. It is not the real connection type.

Values that are blurred or estimated carry the word “approximate”. When a browser does not share something at all, the line says so rather than showing a guess.

Battery

Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge report the charge level and whether the device is charging. Firefox and Safari do not share battery information at all, so the line stays empty there.

The browser never shows battery health — how much charge the battery holds compared with when it was new. That is often the most important number when buying a used laptop or phone, and the used device check explains where to find it on each system.

When the details look wrong

  • The browser name is unexpected. Many browsers are built on the same engine and identify themselves similarly. The engine line tells you what the page is really running on.
  • The graphics chip is the wrong one. Laptops with two graphics chips often run the browser on the smaller, more economical one to save power.
  • Touch screen says yes on a laptop without one. Some drivers and pen devices register as touch input.

To check the hardware itself rather than the numbers, try the screen test for dead pixels, the keyboard test for every key, and the used device check, which combines the most important tests into one report.

Questions and answers

Why does it say Windows 10 / 11 instead of my exact version?
Browsers deliberately report a simplified system version, so that websites have less information to tell visitors apart. Windows 10 and 11 look identical from inside a web page. Your exact version is shown in the system settings under About.
Why is the memory figure lower than my computer really has?
The browser rounds the memory figure and caps it, again to make devices harder to tell apart. That is why it is labelled as a minimum. It is useful for telling a low-memory device from a well-equipped one, not for confirming an exact amount.
Why can't I see the battery or the network type?
Only some browsers share them. Chrome, Edge and other Chromium-based browsers report both, while Firefox and Safari report neither. The line says so instead of guessing.
Can websites use this information to track me?
Any website can read these values — this page just shows them to you. That is exactly why browsers blur the most identifying ones. This site does not store or send any of it, and the copy button only places the text on your own clipboard.
Can I trust this when buying a used laptop?
Use it as a quick first look, not as proof. The screen resolution and the browser details are reliable; the processor cores, memory and graphics name can be rounded or hidden. Confirm the specifications in the system information screen of the device itself.
