About this site

What this site is

TenSecondCheck is a free set of tools that check whether the parts of your device still work: the microphone, camera, speakers, keyboard, mouse, gamepad and screen. Every tool opens ready to use, with no account and no download.

It is useful in three situations: before a video call, when something suddenly stopped working, and when you are about to buy a second-hand laptop or phone.

How it works

Each test is a small program that runs inside your browser using standard web features. When a test needs your microphone or camera, your browser asks you for permission first, and the audio and video are processed on your device only.

There is no server behind this site and no database. The pages are plain files, so nothing you test can be stored, seen or sold.

What we cannot test

A browser is deliberately limited. It cannot read battery health, check charging ports or physical buttons, or reach most sensors on a laptop. Where that happens we say so and give you a short manual checklist instead of guessing.

How the site pays for itself

The site is free and is paid for by advertising. Ads never appear inside a test area, in full screen or between the steps of the used device check. They sit below results and articles.

On wide screens, tests without fast tapping can also show one ad in a side column. Tests where you tap quickly — reaction time, the mini-game, mouse and screen — show ads only below the article, well away from the buttons, and never in a side column.
